Why use Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive method for resolving a wide variety
of conditions. By training the brain and nervous system to function more
effectively and efficiently, neurofeedback helps reduce or eliminate the
underlying causes of many chronic conditions like ADHD, migraine
headaches, sleep disorders, anxiety and more.
Neurofeedback training is an experiential process similar to learning to
play a musical instrument or hit a tennis ball. The client practices
various brain management skills by interacting with a computer based
feedback system. The system monitors the brainwaves of the individual
through sensors placed on the head. Information (feedback) is displayed to
the client in an interesting, timely and meaningful way that encourages
fast and effective changes.
For example, a client may “play” a computer game that responds to changes
in brain activity. When the brain is working better the game moves more
quickly and/or a rewarding sound or image appears.
Medications may provide temporary improvement in an individual’s symptoms,
but often produce unwanted side effects and rarely correct the underlying
causal factors. This necessitates the continued use of medications as long
as the symptoms remain.
Neurofeedback is a training process that takes 20 to 40 sessions. Once
those sessions are completed, the ongoing benefits continue indefinitely. |
